Do I really need a web site for my business?
A web site is an extremely effective way to showcase your products and services to customers 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Potential customers will often turn to the web first to look for information on your business and those of your competitors. It is also a very efficient way to provide documents and important information to your existing customers. A professional, well-planned site will give your business the competitive edge.

How long will it take to get my web site up and running on the Internet?
If your site is less than 7 pages or less, and you already have your content in electronic format, we can create the site, get your domain name registered, help you select a web site host, and get the first cut of the web site published in less than two weeks.

Can you fix my current web site?
Yes - but the cost will vary depending on the complexity of the site and the tools used by the original web site designer. In some cases, it's actually cheaper to have us redesign the site. We'll be happy to provide you with a free quote on the work - either maintenance or redesign.

How much does it cost and when do I pay?
Information on rates can be found on the Pricing Page. I charge for maintenance and updates by the hour and you can get a small business web site for as little as $500. For larger web sites, we can't estimate until I have an idea of what your needs and wants are.

The invoice will be issued once the site is completed and you are completely happy with the work.

Once we have decided on the design and you are content with format for the web site, we would need copies of your logo and any literature that would help us identify what types you wish to emphasis.

How do I register the name of my web site?
Your web site name is known as the "domain name" or URL (Uniform Resource Locator). It is a unique name that, once registered, cannot be used by anyone else. Registration costs approximately $30 per year and can be secured through Edutech or some registry sites online. There are an average of 40,000 domain names registered each day so it makes sense to register your preferred name early - even if you do not intend to have your site developed for some time.

What is the difference between domain name suffixes such as ".com", ".net", ".ca", etc.?
The ".com" suffix is short for "commercial" and is the most common. The ".ca" suffix denotes a Canadian site but Canadian sites are certainly not restricted to using this suffix. It is beneficial to select a domain name that is intuitive to your customers - that is, a name that most people will deduce without having to look up on a search engine. For example, our company name is "Edutech Consulting" and most people will correctly guess the domain name to be "www.edutechconsultingr.com". If that fails, most will try "www.edutechconsulting.ca" as their next choice.

How do I make sure my web site is in the top ten in the search engine listings?
We will discuss with you, during the construction phase the ways in which we prepare your site for search engine readiness. In addition, we will discuss ways that you can help bring potential customers to your site.

How much will it cost to host my web site?
Hosting fees can vary and will depend on the special features required by the site. A basic site that does not require special scripts or databases can be hosted for less than $125 per year. Sites which use databases, CGI (Common Gateway Interface) scripting and SSL (Secure Socket Layers) for credit card encryption may require more sophisticated hosting arrangements and are more expensive.

How will I be able to tell what kind of traffic my site is generating?
We can add a site traffic monitor to your site which runs behind the scenes to keep track of the number of hits your site is getting. With this feature, you will be able to check your site stats at any time to see how many hits your site is getting by day, by week, by month as well as which pages are getting the most attention from your viewers.

How should I promote and publicize my site?
The best way to publicize your site is to make sure your web site name is displayed on all of your printed advertising, yellow pages ad, business cards and signage. Your site should also be listed on all of the major internet search engines - a task that we can do for you.
